Enter the Shatteredverse.
The year is 2062.
Humanity was not alone.
Earth is but one small planet in the grand scheme of things, and humans are just one of a multitude of races. Beyond Earth, there are solar systems and galaxies and a multitude of planets which contain intelligent life. There are even entirely other universes out there with all sorts of creatures that humans could only dream of. Earth is truly only a small spec in the wide expanse that is the Shatteredverse.
Build your own faction.
In the same way that you make a character and interact with other characters, you also may make entire nations. Want to resurrect Ceaser from the dead and start the New Roman Empire? Go right ahead. Want to start a confederacy of alien races bent on enslaving humanity? Be our guests! Don't want to create your own faction? Feel free to make a character that belongs to another faction. Or, if you'd rather, you can make a character with no loyalties at all -- perhaps a bounty hunter who wanders space searching for criminals, or a lone wolf who prefers the freedom of going wherever he pleases.
Fight your own battles.
Just as nations in real life sometimes disagree and, unfortunately, are led to war, it is not uncommon for war to break out here on the Shatteredverse. Similarly, characters sometimes find themselves in unwanted fights and must defend themselves against others. Some have made the choice to wield the ancient powers known as Magic. Magic, originally introduced by mages from another dimension, is wild and often times unpredictable. Others take to building massive machines -- technology -- to advance themselves. Most factions have entire fleets of starcraft capable of engaging in warfare. The tools of war are numerous and just one part of what makes the Shatteredverse what it is.
